Pharm. Burcum Uzunoğlu (MSc) (MBA)
Pharm. Burcum Uzunoğlu is a Member of the Foreign Economic Relations Board (DEİK) Health Business Council Pharmaceuticals Committee and has extensive experience on rare diseases and orphan drugs. During her 7 years career at Celgene International as the Director of Regulatory Affairs and Market Access, she focused primarily on orphan drugs and led numerous projects focusing on the National Orphan Drugs Guideline in collaboration with key policy makers, including the Ministry of Health and the Social Security Institution. She also served as a chairman of the Association of Research-based Pharmaceutical Companies’ (AIFD) Orphan Drugs Working Group where she supported the development of the National Orphan Drugs Guideline. Throughout her career on rare diseases and orphan drugs, Ms. Uzunoğlu attended conferences and workshops where she presented to healthcare policy makers on regulatory and market access issues related to orphan drugs.
Ms. Uzunoğlu has 20 years of experience in regulatory affairs, pricing, reimbursement and corporate affairs. She has more than 15 years of experience working with regulatory bodies such as the Social Security Institution, Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Health and Turkish Medicine and Medical Device Agency. Prior to assuming her positon at Celgene International, Ms. Uzunoğlu worked as the Regulatory Affairs Manager at Berko Pharmaceuticals between 2008 and 2009, Clinical Research Manager at Bilim Pharmaceuticals between 2005 and 2008, Technical Specialist in Nobel Pharmaceuticals between 2004 and 2005. During this period, she built extensive knowledge of and experience in generics industry. In her early career, she held Product Development Specialist position at Fako Pharmaceuticals and Business Development Specialist position in Deva Holding.
Ms. Uzunoğlu earned her Bachelor’s Degree from the Faculty of Pharmacy at Hacettepe University. She continued her studies in the same faculty for her Master’s Degree in Pharmaceutical Technology until 2000. She attended the Business Administration Program at Yıldız Technical University in 2001. She completed the programme of Global Management and Marketing and earned her MBA degree from Bahçeşehir University in 2008.
In the Turkish Grand National Assembly, with treatment and care methods applied in ALS, SMA, DMD, MS and other treatments unknown rare diseases to aim of determine the problems they live and solutions of people with these diseases, she took part as an observer in the Parliamentary research which was opened with the decision published in the Official Gazette No. 30681 dated 9 February 2019. She participated in the meetings of the Commission between 22.05.2019-10.03.2020 and made a presentation to the Parliamentary Research Commission and closely worked with the members of the Commission.
On February 23, 2021, she participated as an audience the Presentation of the General Board of the Turkish Grand National Assembly on “Solution Proposals for Opening a Parliamentary Research in order to Determine Treatment and Care Methods Applied in ALS, SMA, DMD, MS and Other Treatments Unknown Rare Diseases and Solutions to Problems Experienced by People with These Diseases and Their Relatives, and Parliamentary Research Commission Report”.
Pharm. Uzunoglu is the Chairman of “Orphan Drug and Rare Diseases Working Group” and the Member of “Biotechnology Industry Working Group” conducted within the Medicine Pharmacy Health Sciences and Technologies Foundation.
She is also a Member of Ankara University Rare Diseases Application and Research Center-NADIR Advisory Board.
